Students colored their caterpillar and made an AB pattern.

After reading, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” students were handed a plate with something the caterpillar ate. When I called the food item, students brought their plate to the front of the classroom and we stapled it to our caterpillar. Look how long our caterpillar grew!

Using markers, scissors, and a glue stick in the creation of our pattern caterpillars was a great task for the beginning of the year.

Every caterpillar endures solitude to transform into a butterfly!

We followed our caterpillar and butterfly stories with a metaphorical story about taking flight. Students enjoyed using their imagination to pretend as something that flies!
